**So what is unique about Barb — why should somebody use Barb Postma rather than any other available alternative?
Because I tend to be selfless in my business endeavors, and in fact have been told so repeatedly — in fact, I am probably that way to a fault.
**And I know from personal interactions with you that you spend a lot of time helping to educate people about the process, as well as the homes/condition and values people need to be informed about when buying or selling their home. Have you ever had to stage a property? Are you a full service Company?
Yes,
you have to be. I have always felt in my practice it was very important to have the buyer or seller be overly informed. There is so much that can happen. I do have properties staged when necessary and we are a full service group. I encourage sellers to always do whatever it takes to put their best foot forward when we are bringing a home to market.
**So you work with a lot of first time home buyers as well?
Yes, I’m very protective of my first-time home buyers to a fault. It’s such a big deal to buy your first house, it’s a big deal to be buying any home, but to be buying your first house…, I just want to make sure that everything is perfect, that they’re getting the best price, the best process, and that they are totally taken care of. I of course do this with all of my buyers, but I do find myself very protective of first time buyers. They are in all price ranges, and I want their first experience with me to be information-filled, fun and down the road, a great investment decision.
**So what about Barb, what’s your personal story? How did you get into Real Estate, of all professions?, What is the process that lead up to this point?
Well it’s kind of interesting because I kind of grew up in construction and then I was in an entirely different field. After college I was on my way to Law School
when I was asked to fill a position in the Children’s Advocacy field. There is a special place in my heart for abused and neglected children. I’m a huge animal lover also. I have rescued a lot of dogs. My husband worries about that!! Anyway, back to the reason I am in Real Estate. The funding ended in my previous profession a long time ago. I also kept meeting attorneys who were not happy at all with what they were doing and I just felt that it was not going to be a good fit for me. An opportunity presented itself to go to work for a Real Estate Developer… That opportunity grew along with my passion, and I became ranked #3 in a 5 state region. My passion has never waned. I get up every morning loving what I do and excited to get on with my day. Every day is different! I am a Gemini—I love change!
**And you’re still in it even after the worst recession in 70 or 80 years.
Yep, I don’t ever see retiring. I was interviewed once for a major newspaper, and I said “If you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life”! I do
love what I do. I cannot imagine doing anything else. I feel very blessed to be able to say that. I mean it’s kind of funny, I can see being 90 years old and taking people out in my F-350 truck! I want a really big truck when I am 90 years old and showing houses. For safety of course! I love big trucks with King cabs and dually design…, and it would make it easy to remember me, don’t you think? Hope I didn’t create too scary a visual there!!
